Intense Competition Sets the Stage
Eight teams gathered in Johannesburg for the East Division Elite 16, each vying for a chance to compete in the fourth edition of the BAL. While NBA Academy Africa used the competition as a build-up for upcoming NBA competitions in the USA, the remaining seven teams battled it out in two groups.
Dynamo BBC, a wild card entry from Group C pre-qualifiers, faced Group A's tough competition, including favorites Cape Town Tigers and Pazi BBC of Tanzania. In Group B, nine-time Ugandan champions City Oilers faced off against Ferroviario da Beira (Mozambique), JBC (Zimbabwe), and Club Omnisport Police Nationale (COSPN) of Madagascar.

Similarly, in Group B, the Mozambique representatives, Ferroviario da Beira, suffered a shocking 88-57 loss to COSPN, leaving them in a precarious position.
City Oilers secured their spot in the semis with a convincing 100-86 victory over Beira, while Dynamo BBC faced a formidable challenge from Pazi BBC in the semis, emerging victorious with an 88-85 win in a game that required two overtimes.
Cape Town Tigers' Home-Court Advantage
Cape Town Tigers, the South African champions, protected their home court with an impressive 5-0 record. In the semis, they faced a resilient COSPN in a hard-fought battle, ultimately securing a 67-63 victory.
The Final showcased a nail-biting clash between Cape Town Tigers and City Oilers. A last-minute Cartier Diarra jumper led the Tigers to a 70-68 win, solidifying their unbeaten record in the Elite 16 and marking their third consecutive BAL appearance.
